Concrete Protection with Stormdry
Application of Stormdry to concrete surfaces provides resistance to moisture whilst maintaining breathability of the concrete – making it an excellent choice of product for many concrete protection applications.
Stormdry can be used to protect concrete from moisture in a wide range of application areas. Typical applications include:
- Highway and motorway structures (bridges, tunnels, concrete crash barriers, supporting columns, beams etc…)
- Protection of concrete facades (residential and commercial buildings)
- Multi-storey car park structures
- Industrial buildings
By providing protection against the ingress of moisture and contaminants the application of Stormdry increases the freeze-thaw resistance of concrete (including situations where de-icing salt is present).
Stormdry is applied to concrete in a single coat – saving time and cost compared with two-coat systems. Because of its “cream” consistency Stormdry is easy to apply and the requirement to mask off areas not requiring treatment is minimised.
Stormdry is based on proven silane-siloxane technology that has a long track record in the protection of concrete structures.
Independent Testing to EN1504-2 (Hydrophobic Impregnation)
Stormdry is classified as a “hydrophobic impregnation” for concrete and has been tested in accordance with the test methods described in EN1504-2 “Products and systems for the protection and repair of concrete structures. Definitions, requirements, quality control and evaluation of conformity. Surface protection systems for concrete” by IBAC (Building Research Institute Aachen).
Table 1 (Stormdry meets the performance requirements for hydrophobic impregnation given in EN1504-2)
Performance Characteristics | Test Method | Result/Requirements |
---|---|---|
Loss of mass after freeze-thaw salt stress. For structures that may come into contact with de-icing salts. | EN13581 | PASS. The loss of mass of the surface of the impregnated specimen occurred at least 20 cycles later than that of the not impregnated specimen. |
Depth of penetration measured on 100mm concrete test cubes (C (0,70) according to EN 1766). | The depth of penetration is measured with an accuracy of 0.5mm by breaking open the treated specimen and spraying the fracture surface with water. | Class 1: <10mm (single coat) |
Water absorption and resistance to alkali | EN13580 | PASS. Absorption ration <7.5% compared with the untreated specimen. Absorption ration (after immersion in alkali solution) <10%. |
Drying rate coefficient | EN13579 | Class 1: >30% |
Application Methods
Stormdry can be applied to concrete surfaces using a brush or roller. For large areas application using airless spray should be considered (call our technical department for details).
